The Forestry Development Authority on Friday March 23, 2018 conducted an orientation and awareness consultation at the central office of the Forestry Development Authority for Geo-Information Services (GIS), socio-economic and forest inventory technicians who came from the Forestry Development Authority, Forestry Training Institute and University of Liberia.
The consultation was intended to serve as a precursor to a National Forest Inventory training which takes place in Tubmanburg, Bomi County from March 28-April 6, 2018 ahead of the official commencement of the national inventory exercise.
Under the Liberia Forest Sector Project, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is providing Technical Assistance to the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) to conduct a National Forest Inventory (NFI) which will provide a systematic collection of data and firsthand forest information for analysis and government’s decision-making.
The last National Forest Inventory in Liberia was conducted in mid to late 1960s with emphasis only on merchantable tree species unlike the latest effort which takes into account all tree species as well as socio-economic survey.
Note: The Liberia Forest Sector Project is funded by the Government of Norway through the World Bank.
