PROPOSED
PROTECTED AREAS IN GREBO AND GRAND KRU
DISCLOSURE
OF PROCESS FRAMEWORK (PF) AND ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK
(ESMF)
The Government of Liberia has secured
funding from the World Bank Global Environmental Fund (GEF), to support a
project titled: BIODIVERSITY
CONSERVATION THROUGH EXPANDING THE PROTECTED AREA NETWORK IN LIBERIA (EXPAN). This project will overlay
four counties, namely: Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Sinoe and Grand Kru. An assessment of the project activities
indicates that there could be potential minor environmental and social impacts.
Consequently, the Government of Liberia, through the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) has prepared appropriate
safeguards instruments that would help address any such potential impacts
should that become necessary during project implementation in accordance with
World Bank requirements. These documents have been prepared in consultations
with different stakeholders. These documents are:

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK (ESMF)
(2)
PROCESS FRAMEWORK (PF)
The ESMF outlines among others,
procedures to ensure that proposed investments are adequately screened for
their potential environmental and social impacts, and that correct procedures
are followed to avoid or mitigate and minimize any potential negative impacts
arising from the project.
The PF outlines among others, the
principles, legal framework, consultation and grievances redress mechanism,
principles for determining eligibility, correct procedures to be followed to
mitigate and minimize resettlement impacts arising from the proposed
investments. The documents also include
institutional arrangements and responsibilities for implementation.
During implementation, if found to be
necessary after necessary assessments, site specific action or management plans
will be prepared using participatory and consultative processes. The FDA is through this publication giving
the public

OF DISCLOSURE FOR THE ABOVE- MENTIONED SAFEGUARDS INSTRUMENTS AS PART OF THE
REQUIREMENT OF THE WORLD BANK SAFEGUARDS COMPLIANCE MEASURES.
