The National Forest Inventory of Liberia in 2019 showed that the country has 6.5 million hectares of forests. The commercial forest sector makes up 10% of its GDP. Forests provide food and livelihoods for rural families and preserve biodiversity. The FDA is responsible for managing these resources sustainably through a balance of conservation, commercial, community, and carbon management. The book proposes a new mindset and six guiding principles for a more sustainable approach to managing forests in Liberia.
December 2, 2022 - Monrovia. The Government of Liberia, through the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), has revised and signed an extension of the Co-Management Agreement (CMA) with the communities represented by the Co-Management Committee (CMC), for the management of the East Nimba Nature Reserve (ENNR).
Forestry Development Authority, has reacted to a recent publication by the DayLight’s titled, “FDA’s Managers Issue Illegal Timber Export Permit” failed to provide factual information. According to FDA, the DayLight publication in the FrontPageAfrica is fallacious, uncompromisingly and a calculated ploy to denigrate the forest sector.
The Forestry Development Authority (FDA) through the Liberia Forest Sector Project (LFSP) has embarked on a communication campaign to increase public awareness about the REDD+ and to communicate some of the key milestones of the project since its inception five years ago.
Authorities of the FDA and Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection (LCRP) over the weekend received four chimpanzees rescued by the government of Guinea Bissau. The four chimpanzees will join their Liberian cousins at LCRP’s Sanctuary and Conservation Center in Charlesville, Margibi County to share the care, warmth, and privileges currently being offered to over eighty other chimpanzees, rescued from the illegal bushmeat and pet trades.
The mandate to develop the agriculture sector calls for putting in place an effective organizational structure and manned by staff capable of planning, coordinating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating agricultural development programs. +
